Henna is dried and powdered leaves of the Lawsonia inermis plant that provides permanent coloring and conditioning benefits for hair. It has a deep brown-red colour but is also available in other shades with the addition of other natural dyes like indigo.

 

Henna works by coating the hair to give it colour, shine and also reduces breakage. It has antifungal and antibacterial properties and is useful in controlling dandruff and soothing and cooling the scalp.

To use, soak pure henna powder with warm water or dilute tea water to make a smooth paste. Allow it to stand for 3 to 4 hours, for the colour to deepen.  To achieve the best results, you will need to apply henna and keep it for a couple of hours.
